Family Portrait is my first published piece of 2021. I pitched it as a piece about hurt as much as it's about place. The Midwestern approach to grief, pain, and emotion is often one through the rear-view mirror. In this case, it's viewed passively - something we do very well here - through a photograph. It found a much loved home at Reckon Review. Meagan even nominated this story for the Best Short Fiction award in 2021.
